Brevard County
Brevard County is blessed with the Environmentally Endangered Lands Program, or EEL for short. The EEL Program was established in 1990 by voter referendum to acquire environmentally endangered lands for conservation, low-impact recreation, and education. The EEL Program was overwhelmingly endorsed by voters again in 2004. EEL sanctuaries are chosen by a selection committee composed of scientists and once acquired they are managed to preserve native plants and animals by protecting the habitats in which they live.
