Introduction
What is Science? In its most simple definition science is a way of knowing about the world. It has several characteristics that distinguish it from other forms of though such as religion or superstition. This series of pages is meant to help the reader understand the nature of science, e.g. its strengths and limitations, and to become more effective consumers of information. I’ll even throw in some ideas for science fair projects. I will also comment on science and its (mis)portrayal in the media and some of the persistent myths of science.
My research for my doctoral dissertation revolves around the public perception of science and the nature of science. In particular, I intend to test assumptions about how secondary school teachers understand the nature of science.
